Pakistan Cricket Team’s explosive opening batsman,
Sharjeel Khan was accused of match fixing back in 2016 in Pakistan Super League
(PSL). It was the second edition of the tournament in which Sharjeel Khan
accepted a huge amount of money to play two dot balls in a match against
tournament favorites, Peshawar Zalmi in the 2017 edition of Pakistan Super
League.
This was immediately reported to the Pakistan
Cricket Board by some unknown sources and there were strong fixing accusations
made by the board towards Sharjeel Khan. Sharjeel, like every other fixer in
Pakistan’s cricket history denied the accusations.
However, once evidences started to come out and the
accusations started to become more and more relevant, Sharjeel finally
confessed about his crime. Sharjeel was involved in a match-fixing scandal with
players like Nasir Jamshed, Khalid Latif and Shahzaib Hassan.
As reporting such corrupt activities are also
important, Mohammad Irfan and Mohammad Nawaz also served a 6-month ban.
Although his partners in crime will be away from international and domestic
cricket for a long time, Sharjeel’s sentence got reduced due to the fact that
he wasn’t as involved in the crime as his fellow players. Now, his sentence has
come to an end and he has started his training and preparation to make a return
in international cricket.
The chief selector of the Pakistan Cricket Team,
Misbah-ul-Haq hasn’t selected him for the tour in Australia. However, he surely
is in his future plans considering Fakhar Zaman’s terrible form. In this year’s
PSL, we will possibly see Sharjeel’s return and we can expect some explosive
power hitting and some stick from the fans as well for his past antics.
