Methods for Producing Feminized Seeds

Usually, the male marijuana plants are produced when seeds are planted, thus making it hard to produce the female marijuana plants. The best resort a person could have is to get the most female seeds out of the female marijuana plants. Getting female seeds out of female plants could be best achieved by following the order of methods designed to produce the best outcome, which were specially formulated for plant-growers.

Traditional fertilization is the first step in marijuana pollination. Even though unfertilized female marijuana plants have the best smoke and produce a more natural THC, female plants still need pollination in order to produce seeds for next year’s planting. This is because the marijuana seeds one could trust the most are those that are planted by him/her. Buying the stack from marijuana seed companies could be an option; however, it is “buy at your own risk” option because one could not be sure of what he/she is getting once shipment from seed companies arrive. Furthermore, there could be a risk of getting marijuana seeds that have not yet fully matured and thus leading to seeds that would not even germinate. Therefore, the best option is for one to prepare seeds himself/ hereself through the pollination of other crops. However, there’s also a risk: there is no guarantee that one will produce female seeds only. Moreover, the quality of smoke will be reduced as well.

Traditional Method of Marijuana Seed Fertilization

On one hand, when grown outdoors, marijuana plants fully rely on wind, or also to genetics, for fertilization. Male marijuana plants mature two weeks ahead of female marijuana plants. In this period, the male marijuana plant starts to grow taller and starts to produce pollen sacs. Male plants produce a fine, sticky substance which will be the main component for the fertilization. As male marijuana plants undergo the said process, the female marijuana plants starts to produce stigmas that trap in the male pollen resulting to the female marijuana seeds’ reproduction.

On the other hand, when grown indoors, the marijuana plants fertilize on their own and frequently produce female plants. The growers also tend to cut down the male plants in order to provide the unfertilized female plant. However, in doing this, at least one male plant has to live for the purpose of pollination. The best option one could have is to select the best male plant to live. After this, the rest of plants’ usage is for one to decide.

When one would isolate the male plants, it need to receive 12 hours of light and 12 hours of darkness. As the male plants still undergo this process, the female plants are continuously exposed to light. The male plants will produce enough pollen of the plant when they fully flowers; thus, there is no need for manual transfer of pollen from the male to female plants.

The production of pollen of male plants is also beneficial for another reason. With the use only of paper and envelope, pollens could be stored for later use. Whenever the pollen sacs open, one could empty the pollen in the paper and put it in an envelope and label it “for later use”. One should put it in a freezer to preserve the pollen. When one is about to use it again after some time, he/she could retract the envelope and pollinate.

Non-Traditional techniques

It is a requirement for plant-growers to understand that sexual characteristics of plants are almost impossible to determine without any kind of external manipulation. The sexual characteristics of plants one will get using traditional method is uncertain. It is important to take note of this for farmers love to get female plants due to its high level of THC. Of course, farmers would want to have only a pure strand of female marijuana plants. Nevertheless, farmers could resort to non-traditional techniques to get female marijuana plants.

In order to grow higher percentage of female plants, one could use seed feminization technique. Feminization is the best technique, even if fertilization has its own advantages. Feminization is also done by companies that sell marijuana seeds; however, as mentioned earlier, this could be risky for it does not guarantee the best quality in products. This is why we are sharing to people the process of feminization.

Feminization’s two main procedures are rodelization and colloidal silver. Of course both procedures have their own advantages and disadvantages. The key to achieving best output is to perform the procedures correctly so that they can supply a full batch of feminized seeds.

Rodelization

The Rodelization procedure manipulates the natural and the biological factors of female plants. To give you an illustration: for example, the female plants are able to fertilize themselves and to grow pollen sacs when they become stressed or they are about to complete their life cycle since rodelization procedure’s effect is to allow plants to sense this crucial situation. Because marijuana plants try to extend their life time, the female plants will most likely produce seeds that have female characteristics. Crux in seed ferminization is the goal of rodelization. This means female genetics and reproductive material, eggs and pollen, will likely to produce a female seed. This will take place when the process of rodelization is done correctly.

One can also have the option of choosing a single plant to perform the whole process. When plants flowers up and the pollen sacs are created, one can harvest the pollen in a paper and envelope and choose the plant to receive the pollen. The female plants will then fertilize themselves and later on produce feminized seeds. However, there is also a problem with this process. Several factors are needed to execute this process right so it does not have a guarantee that one could perform this correctly. Furthermore, this process also reduces the level of THC which makes one unable to select huge part of flower. This is problematic since one is uncertain of how the chosen flower will react.

Colloidal silver

As compared to rodelization, there are some differences in the process of colloidal silver. In Colloidal Silver process, small amounts of colloidal silver (pure silver) is placed in distilled water. This solution will be used as spray for female plants in the flowering stage. This will allow the plants to produce same pollen sacs created in Rodelization process. Furthermore, the plants will strictly produce female marijuana seeds. This is because the genetic material is full of female characteristics.

This is more than just putting silver coins in the water. This process uses a 9-volt battery, connector, and materials such as pure silver coins or silver wires. One should connect the electric wires to silver coins and place them in the cup. However, in doing such, water should not be in contact with the wires. The current must pass through the silver coin, for a minimum of 7 hours, to create silver ions. This process is better done in a longer period of time for the longer the time, the higher the colloidal silver solution one gets. Spraying of solution that contains small amounts of colloidal silver must be done for around 2 weeks, until male pollen sacs start forming. After the procedure, pollen must be collected and fertilized.

This procedure, however, has its own disadvantages too. This process is time consuming and also difficult. It is also important to note that commercial colloidal silver solution is expensive.

Cloning

For farmers who could not afford so much money and does not have enough time to perform colloidal silver process, cloning method is the best for them for cloning method is the most cost-efficient and time-efficient method. Cloning method will guarantee feminized seeds. In fact, this process could provide consistent feminized seeds, even though this process is not a fully seed feminization method. Cloning just involves picking up a strong plant and recreating it in order to produce high quality smoke with just a cheap cost.

Light-Poisoning Method

Light-Poisoning method is a very simple method. This method is done through breaking the cycle of dark period in the first three weeks of flowering stage. This is made possible through allowing one hour of light in the middle of light period, which is 5.5 hours of darkness, one hour of light, and 5.5 hours of darkness again. This should be done for three weeks. After the said three weeks, 12 hours of light and darkness should be given again to the plants, as this is the normal process. The light-poisoning method will cause the plant to be “hermie”. This is because the plant will receive enough stress in the light-poisoning process. Afterwards, the plant will fertilize itself. The advantage of light-poisoning method is that other female plants will undergo fertilization without the need of male plants in the whole process.

Gibberellic Acid Treatment

The Gibbrellic Acid Treatment’s initial step is to select a female plant the palnt-grower wants the most. The said female plant will be sprayed with the gibbrellic acid solution. The approximate distance when spraying the plant is standing two feet away. As one stands two feet away from the plant, one should spray the part under the plant’s leaves then back to the top. This process should be done around fourteen days before the flowering cycle starts in the plant. This procedure will be repeated after two weeks, when the plant is ready for 12-hour light period and 12-hour dark period. Similar to the light-poisoning method, the gibbrellic acid treatment will cause the plant to be “hermie”. After it becomes “hermie”, it would later be able to pollinate. The last thing one should do in this process is to take note which plant has been treated with Gibberellic Acid.
